Is there anything that sounds more dreamy than sunset at the Eiffel Tower? A view of Tour Eiffel is on just about every bucket list – and rightly so!

The night I found myself in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower for a Parisian sunset is one I’ll never forget. If you’re here, you’re likely planning your own adventure in Paris. Follow this list to ensure you have all the essentials for your own evening with the Iron Lady.

1. Blanket

A blanket doesn’t always make the cut for a suitcase, but it’s definitely an essential for sunset at the Eiffel Tower. Thanks to movies and Instagram, we tend to picture the Eiffel Tower as uncrowded and surrounded by lush green grass.

The reality is that it’s right in the middle of a major city where people from around the world gather for a glimpse. Yes, there are lawn areas where grass is meant to grow. However, with hundreds of people frequenting the spot every day, grass doesn’t grow very well. That, paired with a somewhat rainy climate means there will probably be some mud.

To enjoy the evening in comfort, bring a blanket (and remember to take care on grassy areas that do thrive). We love our Cabeau travel blanket for situations like these, because it folds into it’s own carrying bag with handles. Bonus – it doubles as a pillow for the airplane. Super convenient!

2. Wine

While it’s fair to say that wine makes it to a lot of my essential lists, it’s a definite for your romantic evening at the Eiffel Tower. France is one of the best places in the world for wine but you don’t have to shell out the big bucks to take part. Very good wine is readily available in shops, with an enormous variety at very fair prices.

Don’t forget the accessories! We forgot to bring cups and ended up drinking our wine from the bottle because, well… priorities.

Obvs – Always be mindful of local laws and enjoy responsibly.

3. Macaroons

When in Paris, have a macaroon. Nay, have all the macaroons. Bring some along for your Parisian evening at the Eiffel Tower. They’re available pretty much everywhere – even McDonald’s if you’re so inclined. Nearby, you’ll find plenty of macaroon stands and shops where they’re made fresh. Pick a variety to bring along for your perfect sunset at the Eiffel Tower.

4. Camera

You don’t need this article to tell you to bring a camera or cell phone for a visit to the Eiffel Tower. A picnic in view of the Eiffel Tower is likely what you’ve been daydreaming about since you decided to make the trip to Paris. If you haven’t already planned out your Instagram pics, you were probably at least planning to snap a few photos to remember the moment.

With that said, you may have already been out sightseeing around Paris all day so don’t forget to check your batteries! There’s nothing worse than a dead camera or phone right when you want to take that picture.

While you definitely want to take a camera along, don’t forget to actually, you know, look at the Eiffel Tower. It’s easy to get caught up with getting that perfect shot, but don’t get carried away! The Eiffel Tower is a pretty incredible sight and you’ve come a long way so I recommend making that mental note to take it in with your own two eyes – not just through a camera lens.

5. A friend (or 4)

Finally, bring someone along to share the moment. You definitely don’t need to be in a couple to appreciate this kind of speechless moment. Sunsets were meant for everyone! Just bring a crew that doesn’t mind sharing their macaroons.
